Social Worker
My name is Heidi Carson and I have been the special education social worker at North End since 2003. I received my Bachelor of Social Work degree from Moorhead State University, Moorhead, MN in 1993. I spent the next seven years working with adults and children with varying mental health needs. I received my Masters of Social Work from the University of Minnesota in 2002, and became a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in 2005.
Being a school social worker has given me a wonderful opportunity to develop real relationships with both children and parents. I am able to work hand in hand with parents and students in a positive proactive way to promote school success behaviors that enhance learning. During social skills groups some of the areas that we work on may include: building friendships, self-esteem, problem-solving, conflict resolution, increasing frustration tolerance, increasing self-control, appropriate expression of feelings, and self-advocacy skills. Students learn these skills through direct teaching, modeling, role-playing, therapeutic and on-therapeutic games and "circle time". Being able to talk about and practice how to solve problems in a private or small group setting allows students to build the confidence they need to use these skills in the real world.
I truly believe I have the best job in the world, and it is a pleasure and an honor to serve your children.
