  • My name is Dan Strombeck. This is my 2nd year working in St. Paul Public Schools. I have 25 years of experience as an elementary teacher, with all of them taking place in the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. I have been a homeroom teacher in a private school, public school, and I have worked as a sub in both districts. I have taught many different grade levels as well as teaching science, but the bulk of my experience is as a 2nd grade teacher. I am excited to be back in second grade and look forward to a great school year.

When I'm not at school, I like to be active. Just being outside is important and most of my activities are centered around that concept. I believe in kids being outside as well and we'll use whatever opportunities we get to take advantage of getting fresh air.

  • I have a grown daughter that I love very much. I'm past all of the driving, cooking, prodding, and other things we do as parents while our child grows up. I know what it's like to be a parent and I'll work with ALL families in whatever way I can so that your child can be successful. Don't ever be afraid to ask me for what you need.

I am excited about the school year and getting to know a new community of students and families!

  • BONUS FACT: I am a Minneapolis Public School kid and I have always lived in either Minneapolis or St. Paul.

Second Grade Parents,

In second grade, I believe in having the students try something new and different. There is no evidence that homework improves students' performance in the early elementary grades. Therefore, I will not be assigning homework to your child this year.

Instead, I want you to spend your evenings doing things that will have an impact on your child's success. Things like eating dinner together and discussing the school day. Ask your child what they worked on in math, what book they read during reading class or what story they wrote. Read with your child or have them read to you. Have your child play outside and make sure they get a good night's rest.

If you do want your child to practice their skills at home, have them read for 30 minutes. They can read a book you have at home, a book from the library, or use one of the reading apps on their iPad like Raz Kids.

Thank you, Mr. Dan Strombeck
